The McKinney Centre is Whitby's newest 9,700 square metre arena complex that opened its doors to the residents of Whitby on October 23, 2004. This new facility is located on McKinney Drive, on the north side of Taunton Road, surrounded by Whitby Hydro, and the Town of Whitby Operations Centre and the design/build McKinney Centre was fashioned to blend in with community.

The Town of Whitby consider hockey and figure skating to be key sporting activities for their growing community. This $12.5 facility furthers our commitment to investing in the youth of Whitby allowing both sports to flourish. Stopping by the McKinney Centre, you=ll experience a bright wide open lobby space and reception area, meeting rooms, great ice on well lit pads, larger dressing rooms and player benches, there is no question the facility is first class. With one pad reserved for figure skating and the other two for hockey, as well as floor sports, such as lacrosse, ringette and in-line hockey, the McKinney Centre will fulfill a wide variety of roles.

Each pad has bleacher-style seating for 300 spectators, changing rooms, shower facilities, service entrances and all the amenities that sporting venues require to meet the demands of athletes and recreational skaters.

The design includes an innovative and distinctive curved roof line. North wall glazing was introduced to the figure skating pad, which also provides visual connection to Folkstone Park and the community. Opaque panels were introduced to the east wall to improve the lightness of the figure skating/recreation skating space. The centre itself is surrounded by a variety of trees, shrubs and plants, which not only provide decorative and shielding features, but helps with the transition to the community.
